Another Massachusetts city has embarrassed the People’s Republic. In the latest lunacy, the city of Worcester’s council members have voted to make the Commonwealth’s second largest city a sanctuary for members of the trans, non-binary, and LGBTQIA+ community.
Personally, I don’t care if someone is transgender, transvestite or a transistor radio. The same goes for those who want to be a furry or adult diaper wearers. I just don’t care, nor do I care if any of these folks are considered normal or abnormal.
I do think that an executive order from a president making it law that there are only two sexes in America is excessive. There is no denying that there are people who consider themselves gender fluid and are transgender.
I do agree with the idea that males should not compete against females in sports, but then again, the ability of a president to decide this exists only because of the long fiscal finger of federal funds to colleges and schools.
Getting back to Worcester, a city sometimes confused by non-Baystaters as the home of the famous steak sauce, it is now going to be known for something else completely.
In appearing before the Worcester City Council, proponents of the resolution stated: “The trans, nonbinary, and LGBTQIA+ community in Worcester and nationally are being attacked by President Trump.”
By a 9-2 vote, the city council passed the resolution which declares, “…no city resources…or city property, shall be utilized for detaining persons for solely seeking or providing gender-affirming care…”
The resolution continues “….no city resources [shall] be utilized for cooperating with or providing information to any individual or out-of-state agency or department regarding the provision of gender-affirming healthcare.”
I can understand the concern addressed here over Mr. Trump’s executive order limiting access to gender affirming care for children and teenagers. I really don’t know if Mr. Trump’s executive order is constitutional, and frankly, any challenge to it should be in the courts. By making Worcester a city where this executive order will not be followed is nothing more than political theater.
According to Boston.com,”[city councilor] Thu Nguyen, the first nonbinary person to be elected to any public office in the state, alleged [Mayor Joseph] Petty and At-Large Councilor Kathleen Toomey misgendered them “publicly on the council floor” and said Councilor Candy Mero-Carlson has referred to them as “it” more than once.”
In this Boston.com article, it refers to Thu Nguyen as “they” or “them”. Apparently, to do otherwise is discrimination. Possibly libel? Good journalism. I’m sure the lawyers sent out an office memo.
Anyway, this is a battle that holds very little interest for me, but I’ll be sure to watch my P’s and Q’s if I am ever in Worcester, which I think maybe I’ll now avoid in case I mess up my pronouns. Too bad, because I really like their steak sauce. In my book, it’s A-1.
I knew this was coming lol. nice piece as always Ted. I have yet to figure out how this community has it in their heads that Trump is coming after them and they feel threatened. I am the same as you and have no issue whatsoever with an "adult" doing as they choose and seeking gender treatment care etc. let them be a toaster, fine by me. I do feel however that minors do not, as yet, have the same understanding nor mental or emotional acuity as yet to make such a life altering decision, nor should it be imposed on them or encouraged by their parents. Society has deemed they don't have the acumen, as yet ,to vote, drink or for that matter have sex with anyone over 18 or it becomes rape. Yet the LGBT ...etc community feels as though they should ? Hmmmmm a bit topsy turvy for my liking regardless. in addition they and them is plural and a new pronoun needs to be established for non binary, or gender fluid, if such a thing really exists.. I would call it a disorder requiring treatment but then again what do I know ?
Cheers,
Geoff
