Where Have You Gone Rod Serling?

Rod Serling was a troubled soul whose dark mind produced the iconic television series, “The Twilight Zone.”  He was to network TV what Alfred Hitchcock was to the movie industry.

The thing about the Twilight Zones is that it was fictional.

Sadly, America’s politics today are reaching the level of Twilight Zone bizarreness, but they are not fictional.

Imagine if you will, the greatest country in the history of this blue planet we call earth, electing as its leader a man of already limited intelligence and evident cognitive decline. Despite these impairments, he ascends to the position of most powerful man on that planet.

As his reign proceeds, he becomes increasingly incapacitated, but remains in power because he represents the best option for his party to beat his evil challenger.

That calculation evaporates when his utter unfitness for the job is displayed in a debate with his challenger, as the knives come out for his political throat. He is cast aside as a useful idiot, his 50 year career and torch carrier for the party discarded in a hail of defections.

Left standing in the dust is his erstwhile vice president, a person chosen because of her gender and race in a selection process that excluded otherwise more qualified people who had the misfortune of having either white skin or a penis.

While she is being crowned by the democrat party, let’s step back from the partisan hysteria and take a look at Kamala’s record.

In her remarks this past Monday, she claimed that Biden had surpassed the legacy of most presidents who have served two terms.  She characterized his legislative accomplishments as the greatest in modern American history. Her wagon is inextricably hitched to Joe Biden’s.

Assuming she means what she is saying (never a safe assumption), a review of the Biden/Harris term is instructive.

A good place to start is her record on immigration. As we all know (at least those of us paying attention), Biden put Kamala in charge of the border crisis. Her take on the situation was to talk about the “root causes” of people coming to America. Her solution was to discuss those causes and come up with some kind of remedy.

In the meantime, our border remained sieve-like and millions more illegals crossed into America only to be released into our cities and towns. That will continue under a Harris administration.

Kamala fully embracers the Green New Deal, that progressive policy that wants to eliminate fossil fuels well before our technology is ready and which will drive up energy costs for all Americans while China, India, Brazil and other countries continue to belch carbon into the atmosphere. In 2019, Kamala endorsed a nationwide ban on oil and gas fracking, which if adopted, would have caused widespread powers outages like those experienced in her home state of California.

Then there is student loan forgiveness, which despite Supreme Court rulings that Biden has no power to so forgive, he continues to do an end around those rulings. Ditto the many court decisions limiting the overreach of Biden’s administrative agencies. Kamala supports these Biden actions.

We can safely assume that Kamala is on board with Biden’s continued budget deficits that will add $2 Trillion to our national debt every year for the next ten years. That will balloon out already $35 Trillion debt to $55 Trillion and become a GDP albatross.

Before becoming vice president, Kamala was a California Senator for four years. During that time, she co-sponsored a bill with Bernie Sanders that would make education at public colleges tuition free for students from families making up to $125,000.00. This plan would cost taxpayers $700 billion over ten years and inflame even higher tuition charges from universities who already frenzy feed on all the taxpayer dollars thrown in their direction.

She also joined the Bernie parade by co-sponsoring his Medicare for all single payer health insurance plan. She supported raising taxes to pay for this, and we all know how well the government runs massive programs. If you think this is a good idea, check with any Canadians or Europeans you might know.

In 2019, Kamala said she was open to adding more justices to the Supreme Court. What about Biden’s plan to make the Supreme Court subject to congressional oversight? Now wouldn’t that put a whammy on our system of checks and balances?

Lastly, there is Kamala’s record on foreign policy. First of all, she has no record.  Secondly, her support of Israel in its fight for survival is tepid at best. Shame on her for not sitting in her Senate seat today while Israel’s prime minister addresses congress. Total disrespect for one of our dearest allies and the only democracy in that turbulent part of the world. What message does her absence send to the Israeli people? What will happen to them is she becomes president?

Exhibiting “Bidenesque” lack of foreign policy acumen, Kamala lambasted Trump for killing Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Gen. Qassem Soleimani. She said it would lead to a regional war. The fact is, that killing quelled Iran’s aggressions in the area until Joe Biden decided to play nice with the Mullahs and relieve the sanctions and try to resurrect the Obama/Kerry nuclear deal. We have seen how that policy has turned Iran into a hegemonic beast igniting conflict all around and at Israel.

Besides her actual policy positions, we must also look at her veracity. It is de rigueur to criticize Trump for playing fast and loose with the truth, but Kamala, as with many democrats, has her own estrangement from facts. To me, the most recent glaring falsehood is her claim that Trump wants a national abortion ban.

I am not sure where Kamal got this notion, but the facts are that Trump embraces the Supreme Court decision that the abortion issue belongs with the individual states. If that’s a national ban, then I’m ten feet tall.

I predict that as the campaign moves forward from here and after all the huzzahs calm down, we will see Kamala for what she is; a progressive democrat from California. If the American people want the other 49 states to adopt California Dreamin’, than we may never awaken from this national nightmare.

I don’t think even good old Rod could come up with a more terrifying script.
